Regulations and standards

CE-Marking Mandatory CE-marking has been in effect since the start of 1995 in compliance with the Machinery Directive 89/392/EEC.
The consolidated standard is now available under the designation 98/37/EC.

It defines the fundamental demands regarding the safety of machinery and the health considerations for the operator and user.

What is a "machine"?

In accordance with the machinery directive, a "machine" means an:

"assembly of linked parts or components, at least one of which moves, with the appropriate actuators, control and power circuits etc.., joined together for a specific application".

However, the Machinery Directive only contains basic requirements whilst there are many different types of machines available. The question therefore arises: “How can I prove that my machine is safe?” The EN standards consequently stipulate requirements that can be tested and are therefore certifiable for this purpose.
